关于万圣节

Allhallowtide: 万圣节季.

hallow 与 saint 同意, 意为圣徒. tide 此处不是潮汐之意, 意为 time, season, period of time, 即一段时间, 通常用于复合词. 比如 Christmastide, Yuletide, Eastertide 等. 所以 Allhallowtide 就是"所有圣徒的节日季".

Allhallowtide 包含三天:

• All Hallows' Eve: 也就是 Halloween, 即万圣节前夜. Halloween 可以看做 Hallows' Even 的缩写. 此处Even 意为古英语中傍晚的意思(evening的缩写).
• All Saints' Day: 也称为 Hallowmas, All Hallows, 也就是真正的万圣节这天. Hallowmas 可以看做 Hallow + mass 的缩写. 关于 mass(弥撒) 可以参见我之前总结的: 弥撒与弥赛亚的区别.
• All Souls' Day: 一般称为诸灵节.
